Sherylin is particularly interested in how mindfulness can build resilience and help people from all walks of life move closer towards leading more fulfilled and contented lives. Sherylin has undergone a structured mindfulness teacher training programme through Bangor University and is listed as meeting the criteria set by the UK Network for Mindfulness Based Mindfulness Teachers. Sherylin’s doctoral research pointed to recommendations for mindfulness to help people better manage their emotions. Sherylin is particularly interested in the use of mindfulness for adults who had adversity in their childhoods. Sherylin is currently working with the Oxford Mindfulness Centre as a teacher on their MYRIAD project, the largest randomised control trial on mindfulness in schools.


Sherylin has for more than 12 years had a personal mindfulness practice. She has lived in an urban retreat-like setting for three years where mindfulness was embraced as an everyday way of life. Sherylin has also frequented mindfulness retreat centres over the years and has a deep interest in the traditions from which mindfulness comes.


Sherylin brings a unique blend of personal practical immersion in mindfulness, academic learning, and background career history in the not-for-profit sector. Sherylin takes a down-to-earth approach in bringing high-quality mindfulness courses to grassroots level as well as to top corporate clients.


Originally from South Africa, Sherylin is interested in tackling social inequality. As a psychologist, Sherylin sees good mental health as being fundamental to the development of individuals, families, organisations and society. She enjoys bringing mindfulness to people from a broad range of backgrounds.

Dr Sherylin Thompson is a Chartered Counselling Psychologist and Psychotherapist. Sherylin’s doctoral thesis was on emotion regulation in adults who experienced childhood difficulties. Emotion regulation concerns how a person manages difficult emotions in tough situations. Research shows that some people are more resilient than others. Sherylin believes that emotion regulation helps people withstand hard times and even grow stronger through adversity. Sherylin sees mindfulness as a very effective way to not just manage well through difficulties but to learn and develop.

  • Doctorate in Counselling Psychology and Psychotherapy  – Middlesex University

  • Bangor University mindfulness teacher training pathway. This included a specialist Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) and Mindfulness Based Stress reduction training.

  • Follows the standards and best practice guidelines set by the UK Network for Mindfulness Based Teachers and is listed on the Mental Health Foundation website.
